Antique Japanese dated 1888 Kiri Wood lidded Inbako Tansu Chest 8.5" Box sculptural style of samurai helmetThis is a 150 year old antique Japanese Inbako from the Meiji Era , signed on the bottom with the date (Meiji 20 = 1888). This Inbako were orinaly uesd to hold the familys Inkan or name stamps, which were used for offical documentation to sighn ones name. Keyaki (zelkova) wood was the wood of choice for such a chest being strong as well as having a beautiful grain pattern. This chest still has its original hand rubbed lacquer finish over persimmon
